Welcome to Somerset’s Private Nature Reserve Network. There are more than 200 privately owned nature reserves registered within the county, accounting for over 2000 acres of land.
They include ponds, streams, lakes, meadows, hedgerows, orchards and woods within every kind of Somerset’s terrain. In size they range from rolling acres to the corner of a field.
Our membership includes landowners, smallholders, members of local woodland trusts and groups who own land collectively.
What we have in common is that our priority is wildlife.
Safe Havens. All across Somerset we are restoring and managing our meadows, woods, orchards and ponds to provide safe havens for wild animals, birds, insects and water creatures. If you join the PNR Network, you will be able to ask for information and advice and you will have opportunities to meet with other members to share experiences and to enjoy organised events. You will be offered a subsidised botanical survey and the data collected will be held by the Somerset Environmental Records Centre (SERC). Your land, or part of it, may on its merits be selected by the Somerset Wildlife Trust to be a Local Wildlife Site. Additionally you may be able to receive grant aid for sympathetic land management. Free Membership. Membership is free and although you don’t have to be a member of Somerset Wildlife Trust, it would be appreciated if you did join because the PNR Network is sponsored by the Trust.
