Freshly harvested, Yellow rattle seed from Wildlife Trust Reserves on Mendip.

The Mendip Hills Living Landscape Project has collected a bumper crop of yellow rattle seed this year and they would like to make some available to Wildlife Trust members, at a special price. Yellow rattle is semi-parasitic on grasses and is therefore a crucial element in wildflower meadow re-creation – perfect for your fields and wildlife areas in the garden.

It will perform best if sown this autumn.

The seed mix also contains sweet vernal grass, crested dogs tail, cats ear, selfheal and plantain but at least 50% by weight is yellow rattle seed. We are selling the seed at £50 + VAT per Kg bag (at least 500g of rattle); smaller quantities are available.

(Recommended sowing rate is 0.5-1g per square metre though much lower application rates can be used on a whole meadow scale.)
